Two joao met in the brazilian 50’s, they were like twins, both musicians, both genius, both trying to earn their life with music, both fanciful and physically similar. Joao Donato was playing accordion and Joao Gilberto tried to sing. Donato shifted to piano and Joao Gilberto invented Bossa Nova with his guitar, presumably influenced by his twin friend so singular syncopated style.

After a few years hiatus following the Bossa Nova craze, Joao Gilberto came back in 1970 with a bunch of songs recorded in Mexico. Among them, a take of one of his twin emblematic song, A Ra, here named O sapo. A magic version. Even if nothing can compete with this one to my ears. But a delight nevertheless.
